Salvation required no work of yours; Jesus paid it all. 1 Corinthians 3 nevertheless calls you God’s field and God’s building, a laborer together with Him who only plants and waters. The spirit of the world still sneaks in with envy, taking credit, and divisions, making even sincere effort feel wasted or aimed at the wrong spot.
A dashboard warning light can glow long before the engine stops; anxiety, fear and self-protection can signal a similar loss of peace in the heart. Colossians 3:15 calls for the peace of God to “rule” there, while Proverbs 4:23 says the issues of life flow from that same place. When the gauge falls toward empty, who has taken the throne?
We all want our lives to mean something—to make a name for ourselves that people will actually remember. There’s a blind man sitting by the road outside Jericho in Luke 18, and the crowd wants him to be quiet—he’s an embarrassment, a distraction from something more important. He cries out anyway: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” Whatever it is that makes you feel like the person everyone else wants to go away, this passage is for you.
Clear words can still sail right past us when they aren’t the news we want. In Luke 18, Jesus tells the Twelve exactly what’s about to happen to Him, yet they were just like us: they didn’t want to hear.
